HISTORY
The Chemical Technology Program of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical
Processing Technologies was established in 2008 within the Altınoluk Vocational
School, which was opened by the decision of the Council of Higher Education
(Y.Ö.K.) General Assembly dated October 16, 2007. The program began accepting
students for both daytime and evening classes in the 2008-2009 academic year.
The evening program, which continued until 2018, ended in 2018. Currently, the
program continues to provide only formal education. Within the Department of
Chemistry and Chemical Processing Technologies, there is one branch of the
Chemical Technology Program for daytime education. The quota for daytime
education is 40 students.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/EMPLOYMENT AREAS
Graduates of the Chemical Technology Program, based on the competencies
they acquire, are employed as qualified intermediate personnel in the public
and private sectors as "Chemical Technicians." Graduates can work in
the private sector, especially in the fields of petrochemicals, polymers,
composites, cement, paints, detergents, cosmetics, textiles, pharmaceuticals,
ceramics, glass, automotive, mining, energy, agriculture, etc.
DEGREE EARNED
In higher education, the Chemical Technology Program is subject to a 120-ECTS
credit first-level (level) system. Successful completion of the program and
fulfillment of the program requirements earns an associate degree in Chemical
Technology. Graduates of the Chemical Technology program are eligible to
receive the title of "Chemical Technician."
ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralized, nationwide
student selection and placement exam administered by the Evaluation, Selection
and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to programs based on their
composite scores, consisting of their centralized exam scores and high school
GPA.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and an Equivalence Certificate issued by the
Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB). (2) International University
Entrance Exams (YÖS) or SAT I, ACT, etc., recognized by the Council of Higher
Education (YÖK), the national authority in higher education. Candidates gain
access to programs based on their scores on the YÖS or equivalent exams. The
department accepts students based on the TYT score and offers two-year
associate degree programs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND RULES
Information regarding graduation requirements can be found on the
"Balıkesir University Associate and Undergraduate Education and
Examination Regulations" page. Students must successfully complete all
courses, maintain a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 on their transcript, and
complete a total of at least 120 ECTS credits over four semesters.
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
Assessment:
Assessment is a process conducted to determine the level of achievement of
the Chemical Technology Program's established educational objectives and
outcomes. This process involves collecting and organizing data using various
methods to evaluate the program's effectiveness and measure student
achievement. The assessment process is carried out using the following methods:
Written Exams and Tests:
Written exams and tests are administered to measure students' theoretical
knowledge. These exams assess the level of achievement of program outcomes and
whether students possess fundamental knowledge of the field.
Applied Assessments:
Students' practical skills are measured through practical assessments such
as laboratory work, fieldwork, and project-based assignments. They gain the
ability to use tools, equipment, and machinery related to their field, and to
perform physical, chemical, and instrumental analyses.
Performance Assessments:
Students' performance in various activities, such as projects,
presentations, and group work, is evaluated. They gain the ability to
independently conduct basic field-related research, take responsibility as a
team member to solve complex and unforeseen problems, engage in teamwork, and
prepare experimental reports, projects, and presentations.
Surveys and Feedback:
Periodic surveys are conducted to collect data on student satisfaction and
program effectiveness. Student feedback about courses, faculty, activities,
technical trips, and the school environment constitutes a key criterion for
program development. Evaluation: This refers to the process of interpreting the
measurement results, data, and evidence obtained during the Chemical Technology
Program's educational process using various methods. This process is conducted
to analyze the program's effectiveness and success and to assess the extent to
which learning objectives have been achieved. The evaluation process includes
the following steps:
Data Analysis and Interpretation:
After collecting data such as student exam results, performance
evaluations, projects, and practical work, this data is analyzed. This analysis
determines student achievement levels in program outcomes and identifies areas
where deficiencies or areas need strengthening are identified.
Evaluation of Feedback:
Feedback received from students and faculty provides information about the
overall functioning of the program. By considering students' opinions about the
courses, faculty, and school infrastructure, the program's strengths and
weaknesses are identified. This feedback provides important data to improve
students' educational experiences.
Benchmarking and Contrasting:
Program outcomes are compared to relevant national and international
standards. Student achievements are compared to professional requirements in
the industry to assess the program's relevance to the industry. This comparison
informs improvements to improve the program's quality.
Internal and External Evaluations:
The program is evaluated through internal evaluations (by faculty,
students, and program administrators) and external evaluations (by independent
accrediting bodies or business representatives). These evaluations measure the
program's alignment with external factors and its response to current industry
needs.
ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS WHERE INTERDEPARTMENTAL TRANSFER IS AVAILABLE
The procedures and principles to be followed for horizontal transfers
between diploma programs within Altınoluk Vocational School or to equivalent
diploma programs at other higher education institutions are regulated in the
"Balıkesir University Directive on Intra-Institutional and
Inter-Institutional Horizontal Transfers" (click on the link).
Students wishing to transfer using the central placement base score
(Additional Article-1) must have a central placement score (YKS) in the year of
registration equal to or higher than the base score of the programs to which
they wish to transfer at our university. Furthermore, they must not have
previously availed themselves of this right. The procedures and principles
regarding the procedures are outlined on the relevant website.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS WITH VERTICAL TRANSFER FROM THE DEPARTMENT
Graduates who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to transfer to four-year undergraduate programs at various universities, depending on their scores and quota availability on the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center.

The Chemistry Technology Program of Balıkesir University Altınoluk
Vocational School has successfully completed the external evaluation process
conducted by MEDEK, the Vocational Education Evaluation and Accreditation
Association, and has been accredited.
This accreditation certifies that the educational and training activities
carried out within the program comply with nationally recognized quality
standards and are sustained in line with a continuous improvement and quality
assurance approach.
